About the International CommitteeThe International Committee serves as the primary bridge between SCGIS and its diverse community of practitioners outside the United States. Its mission is to build global capacity by fostering professional development and scientific exchange across international borders. The committee manages a network of dozens of international SCGIS chapters, which provide local networking, specialized workshops, and advocacy for conservation GIS in their respective regions. The committee's flagship initiatives include the Global Scholarship Program and the Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program. Each year, the committee oversees a competitive selection process to bring a select group of international scholars to the USA for advanced technical GIS training, peer-to-peer mentorship, and to attend the Esri UC and SCGIS Annual Conferences. Through the TTT program, selected former scholars receive additional training and are certified to present the same training back in their home countries, thereby empowering them to deliver high-quality GIS training and technical support directly within their home countries and regional communities.
