On September 4-6, SCGIS welcomed our international community to the 2024 SCGIS International Conference in in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. It was very meaningful to gather in person for this event for the first time since before the pandemic!

Keynote speaker Breece Robertson inspired attendees with her thoughtful insights on Conservation for Action and Restoring Balance to the Earth; along with her participation in multiple panel sessions. To learn more, please see Breece's SCGIS 2024 Keynote Presentation

Other conference sessions included four technical workshops, four curated sessions, and a terrific set of 35+ paper sessions from the SCGIS Community. We were also excited to connect with members at our annual Membership Meeting and to host a map gallery competition with exceptional work from the SCGIS community. Congratulations to the map competition winners, shared below, and thank you to everyone that participated.

  • Map Competition Top prize: Alison Gallensky, Rocky Mountain Wild
  • Map Competition Runner-up: Bruce Willet, SIG Patagon

Thank you so much to SCGIS Conference Committee co-chairs Maria Zubkova and Gabriel Daldegan as well as Conference Committee members Janice Thomson, Vivienne Sclater, Anna Komarov, Joel Masselink, Jocelyn Tutak, and Stephanie Scane.
